Bartholomew Island

Bartholomew Island is a small dry arid volcanic island, located east of Santiago Island in the Galapagos Islands.
It has an area of 1.2 square kilometers and has a maximum altitude of 114 meters.
Its name alludes to Sir Bartholomew James Sullivan, a friend and colleague of Charles Darwin who served as a lieutenant aboard the HMS Beagle.

Sullivan played an important role in the exploratory Beagle expedition, making important contributions to the scientific understanding of the Galapagos Islands in the 19th century.

The island’s most emblematic feature is its great pinnacle, a throbbing testimony to the reason for its volcanic origin. Thin layers of basalt form majestic structures, and this impressive formation was created due to the explosive interaction between magma and seawater.
