Sulfer Mines

In the morning in a vehicle we will go to the highlands of Isabela, until the end of the road.
Here, we will start an uphill hike, one of our favorites, as we can have activities such as hiking and we add activities for our trekkers such as horseback riding, biking, and so on.

Arriving at the edge of an area of the Sierra Negra volcano, you will have an impressive panoramic view that spans from the south to the north of Isabela.

We will hike down with the naturalist guide for 1:30 minutes into the heart of the Sierra Negra Volcano, where as we go deeper the landscape transforms from lush vegetation to steep lava rocks and then to deposits of whitish calcium and yellowish sulfur.

As we get closer to the sulfur mines we provide them with masks for safety to facilitate breathing, you will be able to witness the intense volcanic activity up close and learn how a reddish liquid turns into yellow, steaming rock.

This tour is not only about the sulfur mines, because the history of the island is concentrated here before tourism became the main source of income.
